Description
An ignition distributor has three basic functions. To trigger the firing of the ignition coil, to control timing advance, and to route or distribute the coil’s high voltage output to the individual spark plugs. The distributor has a shaft that runs through it. This shaft is driven by a gear on the camshaft or the camshaft itself at exactly one half engine RPM.
